So I have a car stereo that has the capability to play music from a portable hard drive. When I first got the hard drive it didnt work in it so i had to format it so the stereo could read it. After adding music to it everything was fine. It played all the MP3 files and a few other file types that I had on the drive. Some time later I cant really tell you how long I reset my CPU because I had installed an SSD to run my windows. After doing that for some reason a big chunk of the music I had on the portable hard drive doesnt play in the car but I can easily find it and play it on my PC. I even added newer songs to it and a chunk of those songs will not play on the stereo. Does anyone know what the problem could be and please tell me it does not consist of wiping this entire drive because there is a huge collection of files on here that I dont think would be able to copy onto my computer or somewhere else unless I buy another 2TB...

I have a massive music library myself, 1000 LP's, 500 CD's, 500 Cassettes and over 125 Gigs of Digital Music, I use many difference devices for...
I suggest you open the Manual for the Car or Head unit and see what the Max supported External size it will load. Most lower end versions like mine will only safely Cache up to 16 GB before it gets wonky, while others will do 1TB fairly easy.

Thanks I will see if I still have the manual for it. Hopefully it does say. In the mean time I guess ill just save the music I can to my computer and try to reformat it. I also noticed there is hidden files the car stereo finds that my computer doesnt even with show hidden folders on, like a recycle folder of files i deleted off the drive...

1. Make Folders as simple as possible, avoid folders in folders.
2. Tags Check every single one, Loading your Library with foobar2000 will show you what is messed up.
3. Fix Albums that have files Tags different from the Album Name.. some will list different with a guest and will show up as a different Album, TagScanner will help you here.
4.. Erase any file that isn't a MP3,WMA or MP4 most everything else may or may not be supported by most Head Units.
