Why is it almost always Israelis that make the latest technological breakthroughs? Is it because they are vastly outnumbered by the horde that they know if they didn't have superior technology then they would be overrun? I'm wondering if it would be better if the horde keeps threatening them or stops.

A lot of discoveries, perhaps most, are made in other nations. We might hear about more Israeli discoveries/inventions/whatever, but even that doesn't seem true. Perhaps you've simply read about a few Israeli scientific breakthroughs lately instead of other discoveries. Tom's doesn't cover even nearly all of them.

Yes, everything is combustible if the temperature is high enough, but the temperature it would combust would be significantly higher than what would cause you to set on fire first and even be completely reduced to ash, so try not to worry about it

Methinks there's a hidden agenda in your statement, would you even have raised this question if the breakthrough had happened in Manchester in the UK? That city had the first working computer, invented the contaceptive pill, first split the atom, two Manchester University scientists won the 2010 Nobel prize for physics for their graphene research, other famous scientists from Manchester include John Dalton, James Prescott Joule, Ernest Rutherford and Bernard Lovell.
...
But because Israel is mentioned in the story are you pushing some kind of antiSemetic angle?

Not sure about the "horde" theory, but Israel does have a lively high-tech industry. Lots of education, R&D, and the like over there.

[citation][nom]nitrium[/nom]No. Not even slightly. It is the same material used in standard pencils (leads). Try and get that to burn. Even a blow torch as no effect![/citation]
Try putting 110V through the pencil core & see what happens (I already did...) It WILL burn after the surrounding wood burns.
