I'm building a gaming computer and am trying to learn about balancing Cas timings vs. frequency.
Maybe someone can help me decide between 2 different Corsair Vengeance memory offerings.
I will be overclocking each memory to their listed frequency.

8GB 2x4 of DDR3 2133 at 9-11-10-30

8GB 2x4 of DDR3 1600 at 7-8-8-24

My build is an i5 3570k lightly overclocked with a Coolermaster 212 EVO.
MSI Z77a GD65.
Evga Nvidia 580.
8GB dual channel ram.
PC Power and Cooling 750 watt PSU.
Antec 900 case.

If I were to run the 2133 at a slower MHz (1600), could/would I tighten up my timing or will it be better to run the higher frequency to overcome the slower Cas?

Thanks for your opinions....
Jay.

Go with the 2133MHz card as it will be slightly faster also the price is lower than 1600MHz? You can even slightly decrease the ram timings of the 2133 cards.
The concept behind timings
1066MHz 5-5-5-15 and 2133 10-10-10-30. Both has same bandwidth.

Thanks Xttony,

It sounds like if I wanted to, I could drop the 2133 to 1600 and run the same 7-8-8-24 timings as they are mathematically similar.

I'm guessing that the 2133's might be better binned chips?
I was told that Ivy Bridge necessitates 1.5v sticks, so these were the best at a reasonable price point I could find... staying within voltage parameters.

Is there a different 8GB Dual Channel memory set I should consider?

Appreciate the help.
