hello everyone

i've been looking at replacement cases for my pc and I just can't seem to find one i like. it seems top docking bays for hard drives if you can find a good case that has them (many cheap ones do) your limited to 1 bay my current has 2.

so i've been toying with the idea of building my own case but what are the requirements needed. i've seen cases made out of plexiglass but was told to avoid those and seen them made out of wood etc. seen desk cases which look neat not sure I am that skilled to do that.

so really whats the requirements to case building to keep everything functioning correctly and without issues that will shorten their life.

1| Heat/thermal management
2| Measurements and minor tolerances
3| Materials used
4| Proper layout

The list will keep going on and on but I must ask you, what is it that you're looking for that isn't already in the market? Mind sharing your full system's specs?

well I was looking to replace my case and i've not been able to find one out there that had what i wanted with two docking stations on top that was either not too expensive. in fact in all my searching i failed to find any new case that has dual docking stations on the top of the case.

i've solved some of my problems as i purchased a usb 3.o add on card to take care of the failed cases usb 3.0 port.

but I had also seen desks turned into cases and through it might be neat to do something like that but to me it seems like the ones i saw was not set up right.

i mean there is a reason all cases even though mostly of plastic have the metal interior that the motherboard and such screw onto.

i guess at this point with everything i have going on its more of something for down the line if that ever happens as i never seem to get caught up on stuff always feel like i am dragging behind.

to answer a few questions I just can't seem to find a case that has what i want. right now i have a thermaltake v9 black edition which i like but certain things are starting to break down on it like the usb3 port just can't be used not sure if its the port on it or the motherboard though since it just connect to the usb 3 port on the motherboard but i just ordered a usb 3 expansion card so i guess i can test if it sthe port or the cases cable.

my system specifications are close to the following
thermaltake v9 black edition case
asus: p8p67 deluxe motherboard
intel sandybridge 2600k cpu
4 4gig ddr3 1800mhz ram sticks
asus radeon 7750 video card

drives and this is where the cases i look at fail for my needs

Drive Bays 10
3 x 5.25’’, 2 x 3.5’’
5 x 3.5’’
HDD Docking : 2.5” & 3.5’’ x 2

2 of the 3 5.25 are used for optical drives (dvd and bluray burners)
7 3.5 bays
two face the front of the pc one used for pny ssd and one used for front usb3.0 block
5 inside computer itself currently houses
2 western digital 2tb drives in raid 1
1 3tb seagate drive
it really says 5 but the other two spots really can't be used with the way the clips hold the drives in i've not tried putting all the drives in before trying the clips which i ccan try but then i have hard drives stacked so close on top of each other i am afraid of hte extra heat they will produce being a problem.

in the dual docking station I have those filled with
3tb seagate drive
4tb seagate drive

then i have two external drives
3 tb seagate drive
5tb seagate drive

looking soon to add another 4tb seagate drive

also have 2 external bluray burner drives but rarelfy connect them, tried burnign with 3 optials at once while the burns was fine it was just too much of a pain to use 3 at once.

just bought two expansion cards

4 port sata 3 considering two of my sata 3 drives currently are connected to sata 2 ports
7 port usb 3.0 (5 on back of card and a spot for more more via front block or something) hoping that will help the usb 3.0 external drive preform better than the usb 2's they currently are connected too.
