Trying to connect my PC with Ethernet instead of having to go through a WiFi repeater. Using an Ethernet cable probably less than 10m, doesn't work, no connection... The cable is fine, I have a tester. Although there is nothing on this giant interweb about it, just wandering if it is my lack of internet speed coming into the house (6 down 0.3 up) as others in my area seem to have the same issue. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Cable is fine when it is half length, in fairness it is working now, but it is patchy...

Do you have a TDR type meter or do you just have the device that checks if there is connectivity on pins. The cable could have the wrong pair combinations or you could have a poor end termination and both would pass on the cheaper testers. Then again if you have something like a fluke meter to test cable you would know all this already.

I would still try another cable, pretty much the only other thing that will cause that problem are bad ports in the equipment. It will be much cheaper to buy a cable to test than to replace your equipment. There really are no setting you can make especially on the router/switch since they tend to not have any options on consumer grade equipment.

For those with this problem, I recommend trying different cable, as it should work.
Unfortunately I ended up with some extremely bad quality cable, and now have it coursing through my house, for no use whatsoever.
