Solution
For gaming you could use cat3 cables if anyone actually still sells them.

Games use well less than 1mbps up and down. Your internet connection is already 900 times faster than it needs to be. Things like world of warcraft used to run on dialup phone lines that were 56kbits. It uses a lot more now but is still under 500kbps.

For home use you need nothing better than cat5e. If you would ever get 10g ports then you can look at better cable. You would have to be doing something like video rendering or something to need 10g ports.
First off let me mention right away that both cable types are WAAAAY overkill already. At best a simple CAT 5e cable will be all you'll ever need for gaming. Gaming barely ever uses more than 1 MB/s in bandwidth, so a CAT 6 cable that can handle up to 10Gb/s will be more than you need just for gaming. CAT 6 is only meant for businesses or home networks with lots of users. So a CAT 5e which can handle 1Gb/s will handle your network speed just fine and ultimately gaming. Or go CAT 6 if you feel you need the extra layer of stability if you have lots of users at home.

Here's a chart to help you understand a little more:

so am i reading this wrong? View: https://imgur.com/a/Vqs8K2a
i was reading it as the bandwidth is the upload speed and the max data rate was the download speed?

Yes, you're looking at 250Mhz, that's not the DATA RATE. What you should be looking at is the middle column labeled, "Max Data Rate". That represents how much data can be transferred per second. Your internet is 950Mb/s down and 500Mb/s up. As you can see even cat 5e can handle those speeds just fine. Go with 5e.

i use a cat 6 cable for my gb connection and have no issues maxing out the speed either way. i only got a cat 6 cause that's all my local best buy had and i did not want to wait for one to be delivered.

my upload is over 800 mb/s so you're 500 should not be any problem at all.
