I'm looking for a new ethernet cable. I've been considering this. I know Cat7 is not necessary for home use, but yeah...

My question is, will it be compatible with my current router? I'm pretty sure I'm still using a Cat5 cable. I don't know the exact name of my router, it's from CICSO, that's all I know. (I'm out of town)

Any answer will be appreciated. :)

Thanks!

The cable alone does not affect the rate the data flows. It does not flow faster in a cat7 cable than cat5e. The speed is controlled by the ports you plug it into. If you plug it into a old 10megbit port it will still only run at 10bit. All cat7 cable does is allow you to plug it into 10g ports and have it function.
In a home environment all a cat7 cable gives you is the ability to brag to your friends you have a bigger number than they do. Normal cat6 cable will even operate at 10g at the shorter distance you find in a house.......but it still will not run faster than a cat5e cable when you plug it into a gig port.
