I use CCleaner v6.02.9938 (64 bit). free for home use, with my windows 10. My browser is Edge Chromium.
Every 4 or 5 days I do the custom clean to flush out the temporary files etc. Normally this has worked fine, but on the last few occasions, I note that on the 'report' of files it intends to delete (prior to clicking run cleaner), it states 'skipped' against Internet Cache, Cookies and Internet history ticked to be deleted. Why is doing that? The vast majority of my temporary files build up quickly as a result of my browsing with edge chromium..

Basically it’s a garbage application that should never be used. You can use ms Edge can clean up it’s own files. Windows can also delete temporary files quite easily. If this is all that’s happening to you then consider yourself lucky because I’ve seen it destroyed windows system before

You’re not doing any favors to your system running that application all the time. I don’t know why people use it it doesn’t provide any value and it doesn’t fix any problems

ccleaner does more damage than good.
it deletes dump files, thats great if you running low on space but if you start getting errors, you won't have any way to troubleshoot.

Its not needed.

Most people have so much space now that the little saved by ccleaner really doesn't help.

Ccleaner just does a little house cleaning....picking up the crud.

Dump files?......99% of users would not know what to do with one if it bit them in the butt.

Yes but if they were to get BSOD and ask for help, having ccleaner doing its thing means we would have to ask them to remove it and wait for another BSOD before we can see results.

ccleaner is as about as necessary as Driver Booster. Its not needed, it just sells because people think it helps.
Too many programs out there you don't need.

Well it is fairly clear from the responses received so far that CCleaner is not well liked! Ah well, everyone is entitled to their opinion but I have had no problems with it and it seems to do a good job. I have received some good advice from another forum and have been given a solution to the issue I raised in my first post and it now works fine. Equally, a local pc shop to me advised on doing the following as well to remove unnecessary files:
From explorer, right-click on the C: drive ===> properties ===> disk clean-up ===> clean up system files. All good, that cleared over 3gb of unwanted files (!) and my pc and browsing is now a lot faster!! Result.👍

I run CC every so often just to tidy up a bit.
I've never seen a problem with it.
On the other hand I've never seen a perf beny either.
Perhaps I just don't run the machine proper.
Yes disk cleanup is also on the tidy up schedule.

It can depend on how much space you have free as to whether cleaning up PC is worth it. I have 3tb of free space, its not a concern to me.
Disk space is cheap, why try to fit windows into tiny spaces?

I went to turn on Storage sense for my PC and at first it wouldn't even let me turn it on, as when you have 600gb free on C drive, its not necessary.
It still only wants to delete files in my download folder. It can save my 5gb... if I ever get below 300gb on C I might think about it.
