Hello.

I have a USB with a CD-ROM partition. I am trying to get it to work with AutoRun / AutoPlay, but I can't get it to work. Sometimes it does work though, but not very often. I have tried it on multiple PC's but it won't work on any of them.
My Autorun.inf file starts a batch file that starts CMD.
I find it weird that is has worked a few times, but just not every time like I want to.
All the settings for AutoRun / AutoPlay on my PC are turned on correctly. (Windows 10)

Below are some screenshots. If you need to know anything else, feel free to ask.

Yes.

As a security matter most organizations and people do not want a PC configuration where a USB stick, CD, etc. can be inserted into the applicable drive or port and allow access to the host computer via powering up the PC.

So the computers are configured not to boot from another source. And that configuration cannot be changed without the applicable admin rights to the computer in question.

Focus on getting your PC's set-up/configured to run via the CD. And set aside the universal ("work on every PC") - may end up being trouble in any number of ways.

Can you post startcom.bat?

Where is autorun.inf located?

My sense is that there may be a pathname problem. Or a rights problem.

As I understand the screenshots the USB drive is E: and the desired CD-ROM partition is D:

The following link should help you sort things out:

Hey, thanks for helping me out!

Here is a screenshot of my "startcmd.bat" file: https://imgur.com/a/3sDhf
My autorun.inf is located on the CD-ROM partition. (startcmd.bat as well)
The weird thing is that is has worked a few times before. I would just put the USB in my PC and CMD would start up.
As for the link, I have gone trough all these options and everything is turned on correctly. I have also tried it on multiple PC's so that shouldn't be the problem, as I understand that Autorun / Autoplay from a CD-ROM is still working in windows 10.

Thanks,
Casper

You are welcome.

However all you are doing is starting cmd.

However your objective, just to ensure that I understand correctly, is to start a CD player (some executable file) and play the desired music files that are also on the USB drive when the flash drive is inserted.

It works on some systems because the specific system meets the full set of requirements to start and launch the player.

Other systems, not so configured, will not work due to the various issues addressed within the link.

For example where autorun.inf is located and if your Windows is configured to allow autorun.

Take a look at the following link:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2616520

I selected the link from some others that I found mainly because the postings are fairly comprehensive with respect to your intentions and the requirements.

There are multiple factors and configuration settings involved.

Hey, sorry for the late reply.

Yes you are right, all I am currently doing is starting CMD, just to test if the Autorun works.
My objective (after it works) can be anything, from copying files to playing songs etc.
I was hoping that I could get it to work so it can work on every PC, without pre-configurations on that PC itself.
My Autorun.inf is located at the root of the CD-ROM partition, where it should be.
Some people on that Whirlpool forum page are saying that autorunning from a CD-ROM is not supposed to work anymore in Windows 10, while others are saying that it should work just fine.
I am kinda lost and I'm not sure what I should do now.

Thanks,

Casper
