CD-ROM making grinding noises

Ok I have a Sony Vaio vpcfll90x laptop that the cd-rom is making grinding noises for about 15 seconds after closing drive? It also will not read anything. When I double click on the drive to open the contents loads for 5 seconds and then spits the drive out asking to insert a disc. All the drivers are up to date. I even removed the cd-rom drive and reattached it and nothing. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Sounds like the drive is dying.
Probably the only 'fix' is to replace it.

honestly, the lens servo is probably dying/dead
