CD ROM not detecting new CD's

I've recently acquired 2 new gaming DVD's that don't seem to appear on my computer when inserted. When I googled and tried to find out the problem , some threads say that DVD's aren't compatible with CD ROMS , but when I checked the system information its says DVD RAM ATA device. Are my CD's still compatible? If not , is there a way to make it work? Perhaps changing the CD ROM or is there anyway I can convert the DVD's to a CD format?

DVD roms can read CD's. The drive is probably bad, or just dirty.
