It doesnt sound like you need the latest and fastest drive, so I recommend you should buy the cheapest 24x or higher drive from and good brand like afreey, aopen, creative labs, asus, ibm, toshiba, pioneer, etc.

Yes, u r right. What I need is just IDE interface, price around $2XX-3XX (in HK dollars)

Speed for 24X... so low...
In my region, 5? X just need $2XX HK dollars.
So I would prefer 4?-5? X

About IBM, from what I heard, some said it is rubbish... don't you feel it ?? It's easily broken or damaged...

BTW, have you ever heard about Sony, panasonic ??

You can get a 50x afreey or aopen cd-rom drive for around $30 USD (I don't know how much that is in HK)...most of them can be even bought in Retail, which may included a warranty if you ever need it.

Oh, and a 48x Creative Labs costs $26 USD. I would personally go for any of the three I mentioned.

Just don't buy 32-40x drives they are sh|t.

However a 24x panasonic is reliable, had it for 4 years now.
