Well, quite frankly, I'm not "real" impressed. I was really looking for
something powerful, like a fireball that could basically clean out a
room. What I've found really doesn't impress me. The fumigating potion
works individually it seems - like killing one monster at a time - and
the poison one doesn't last more than a few seconds.

There's a character, maybe the necro ??? that has a skill similar to
what I'm looking for. Like a fireball and when you throw it, everything
burns. But for my barb, he doesn't appear to have that capability.

Anyway, I'll just keep going back to the Cathedral and trying to kill
them all. If nothing else, my lvl is going up. I'm at 23 now. One
would think that would be high enough to deal with all these guys, but
it's not for me, lol. I'm probably gonna have to be at about 30 to get
them all dead. And, my gear is pretty darned good, sheesh.

Do you understand why I stay at SP and NEVER EVER consider playing HC?
I'd be dead before ya know it, hahahahaha.

Sorry to hear that, I would have thought the strangling gas potions
(one of the poison ones) would last longer and do more damage, but I
haven't tried them.

Sounds more like the Sorceress, the Necro only has a couple of bone
skills that basically only effect one monster at a time, and a couple
of poison ones that can effect more, but no fireballs ;-)

You and me both, although MP doesn't mean HC. My one and only HC
character on the Realms (never tried one SP, no wait, I take that
back, I had one once but basically committed suicide with him at about
level 7) died of fright (read: not playing her because I was afraid
she'd die) ;-)

This is true. In reality, the high end poison potions work best.
Although no potion can really be used as a solo formn of attack, poison
potions, whenused in conjunction with a melee attack can work quite
well playing solo. My son has a barb that tosses them around and then
whirlwinds through and this seems to increase his killing speed quite
nicely. Blizzard's primary error with throwing potions was that they
did not make them scale up with difficulty or player numbers.

This I would have to disagree with. It is the reason they are not
effective in LoD. the reason they are not effective in CE is the fault
of those who created it. Just because Blizzard screwed the pooch does
not obligate those who followed to repeat their error. In D1, chain
lightning had a bug which caused gaps to appear where monsters could
stand and not be hit. In NetherWorld, Frank found that bug and fixed it
:)

I was talking about D1. If you're talking about LoD, then I think nova
is far better than CL, as it can be cast at an extremely high rate and
will actually stunlock monsters. In that case, you want a HoTo or an
Occy.

The virtual drive was created using DAEmon Tools. I've since figured out how to
remove the orphaned virtual drive as well as turn off virtual drives in Alcohol
120 and an upgrade of DAEmon tools. At this point my computer is VD-free : )

Frenzy is clvl24. So, I suppose your point is that I should have a
point in Frenzy? I'm at 24 now. I've been putting points into sword
mastery and iron skin. Those are some fast boots!!!! Right now I have
Gorefoot Heavy Boots with 40% faster run/walk.

Absolutely!!!! There's a whole lot more buggers in Tristram to kill,
more gold to be gotten, more yellows and blues to be traded. No wonder
my game is getting ahead of you. You're addicted to WoW. It was bound
to happen. Boy of boy. No more time for CE, huh? I don't blame you.
If I were paying a monthly fee, THAT would be the ONLY game I'd EVER

Why don't you just use the Graveyard stash? It's a whole lot easier to
get to.

Oh, and when you get to the Catacombs lvl 4, and there's this big room
over on the East side with another room inside it, don't open the door
to the little room (my only death so far:). Very reminiscent of
Diablo-1.

I don't particulary find the Tristram stash difficult to get to.
There's a WP, and killing all the little buggers gives me stuff.

Thanks for the tip re: lvl 4. I think it was ald who warned me about
opening doors, but do I listen? Nope. I still open every door. For
me, it's not only the thrill of getting to the next level, but also for
covering EVERY area, and killing EVERY ah heck I can find and leaving no
stones unturned. Therefore, I don't rush my characters. I play slowly
and deliberately and I find everything there is to find. I'll leave the
rushing to those who enjoy that sort of play.

I was there tonight and *no* I did not open the door. I opened every
other door though, and holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Did you ever open
all those treasure chests? You ever see how much stuff is down there?
I spent the entire night collecting stuff. But cripes, the only greens
I'm getting are the same greens I keep getting over and over again.
But, I've got lots of pgems, runes, gold items, and at one point I had
so much gold that I couldn't collect anymore and had to go to Gheeds and
gamble just to get rid of some of it, lol.

But alas, I did get killed (no surprise there). So, I'll have to give
it another try. Thankfully I've got the WP so I don't have to go back
and do the ENTIRE cathedral over again. But, I was really enjoying
level 4. It was like Christmas and my birthday all rolled into one,
lol.

Sounds like my speed. I think I was at about 17 at the tree. Now I'm in
lvl 4 of the Cathedral at lvl 24. And, even that is probably low for me.
I think I'll probably level up to 26 before I finally kill Andy.
Meanwhile, I've become a packrat.

I don't think that you are going to be able to find a source of CL that
will be very useful to your Barb. If you want to try it out, you are
going to have to create a Sorceress.

I'm not sure I should tell you this...

Ah what the heck. There is a way of starting a new character at up to
level 96 in CE. Email me if you want to know how. I'm loathe to pass it
on though, as playing around with a high level character can spoil the
experience for some people. On the other hand, it can useful to see how
a projected build will turn out.

Thanks, but I think I'll just go the traditional route. I don't want to
take the fun and frustration out of bringing my barb along on his own.
But, I'll keep you in mind if I get to a point where I just can't go on
any longer. However, should I get to that point in the future, chances
are I'll just resign my barb and start a necro, lol. But thanks anyway.

Not a big secret, since it's basically in the readme on the site, but
I've tried it twice so far, both at the regular start of level 33,
once in the regular game and once in Nez, when my regular starting
Necro was running into a *major* wall in Act 1. The problem is that
you end up with a very high-level character who has *no* equipment, so
they're all but forced to go back to Act 1, and then the game is very
boring, at least to me, as you work your way through looking for
*something* to use. Definitely not my cup of tea ;-)

Don't the drops correspond, at least in some degree, to the clvl?

If you're dual-wielding swords, yeah. You have what, + 3 to all
skills? Put at least one point in there and try it, if you haven't
already, I certainly liked it enough for it to become my Barb's main
attack.

And yeah, the boots are another reason I love AR. You get them by
cubing a pair of unique boots (always dropped by Corpsefire) and a set
pair (always dropped by Bishibosh). Most of them have a character
level requirement of between 24 and 34, most of my characters have 2
or 3 pair waiting for them to hit the required level. I didn't used to
like FR/W, those boots changed my mind ;-)

I think I read somewhere about a crafted pair that can give you 70% in
CE, but I don't remember where.

Fair enough, if I find the WP I'll have to try that. And no, I don't
*think* I'm addicted to WoW, and I'm not paying for it, good thing
since that wouldn't be possible at this point, but I am trying to get
in what playing time I can before they pull the plug on the (free)
beta. It certainly is an interesting game, if only I'd stop ending up
in places I had no plans on going to (which shouldn't be a surprise to
the people who've played D2 with me ;-) ).

Not really. Some things, like which unique rings/amulets can drop/be
cubed (in AR)/be gambled (?) do, but a Fallen can only drop so many
versions of a cracked sash ;-)
