Hi julian_52, well wrong forum to start with, but we will blame your display screen for this.

You can try to boot into SAFE mode (press the F8 key on a fresh boot and before you see the windows splash screen)
once to your desktop, are items now readable like your desktop icons?

Did you recently install any new software or drivers? You could try to uninstall of any new items and reboot.

Try downloading and installing the latest video driver for your laptop. I think it is the Intel GM965/GMA X3100.
*http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ --> pick Graphics, then Laptop graphics, then Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset
Save it to your desktop.

Try to boot normally and run the driver install from the desktop.

If the above steps did not help, maybe give more details: what is your OS? (Win XP, Vista?) Results from above steps?
Try a different support forum like "Graphics & Displays". Also check your Screen Resolution, is it at something really small like 800x600? I think it should be at 1280x800.
