Hello, before I continue, I just want to put it out there that yes, I have using google for answers and no, they did not work. At one time, my pc was running great, no issues. I did a fresh install a last month and I can't seem to get things working properly. There are about 5 of my icons that are constantly moving after booting. All of the other ones are right where I left them. I've tried messing with the scale, layout and icon auto arrange. Nothing. After messing with the scale and layout, all of my icons i keep on the right side of the screen ends up right in the middle.
I have 2 monitors and a tv connected. Main display is a 4k, which is where all of the icons are going nuts. The ones on my second display doesn't move at all.

Core i5
GTX 1080

Windows 10

Hi, this is a common problem and I've seen it on here a dozen or so times. It probably happens because of the 2 screens having different resolutions. Anyway, what is happening is that your screen resolution is being changed on boot, likely due to the 2nd screen.

Windows tries to keep all icons on the desktop. For example, if you have a 1024 x 768 resolution and icons at the bottom/right of the screen, and the resolution is changed to 640 x 480, then those icons at the bottom right will be moved to fit onto the 640 x 480 screen. Then the resolution quickly changes back to 1024 x 768 and the icons are not moved again because they are all on screen now. This can happen so quickly that you don't notice it.

Isn't the gardenman smiley face icon awesome?

As far as I know, there is no "fix" for this problem. Only work-arounds.

At the bottom of the page that DarkEngine recommend a program named DesktopOK is mentioned. It allows you to save and restore your icon layout. I have previously tested it out and it appears to work. Here are a few alternatives to it:

I think I may have accidentally solved the problem. I rearranged the icons to where I want and I accidentally pressed either the sleep or hibernate icon. I don't remember what it was but when waking my pc back up, the icons didn't move. So I tried restarting it and all except one keeps moving now. My GOG Galaxy icon. But so far, it seems to have fixed the issue!
