Certain PC Games no Longer Work

Some of my games have stopped working. For example, League of Legends. When I get into game, I can't do anything. I can't move my character, level skills, click on the shop, etc. The one thing I can do is move the camera. In order to exit the game I have to alt+tab out and close the window. A similar thing happens in Dark Souls 3. It starts to open but then displays the message "Dark Souls 3 has stopped working", then it closes. I have had this problem before, and I was able to fix it by restarting my computer every time I went on it. After a while, this stopped working for some reason. As a result, I had to system reset my computer (I chose to keep my personal apps and files). This fixed it, until yesterday. I found that the problem was to do with a windows update, which I stopped from installing again. I thought this fixed the problem, but it came back today. I've tried doing system restores, uninstalling previous updates, but none of this has worked. A system reset would probably fix it temporarily, but I would like to find a permanent fix.. My operating system is Windows 10, and my hardware is GTX 970 GPU, Intel i5 4690k CPU, 8GB RAM, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition motherboard, Corsair CX 600M PSU.

My point is you told it not to install that update again, but it probably did, because M$ decided that it's an Important Update, and therefore everyone must download it whether they like it or not.

That update policy is probably the single most hated thing about Windows 10.

Side note: It is really hard not to start swearing when talking about these kinds of idiot decisions by otherwise awesome companies...
M$: Ahahahaha, you wanted to not install this update, but see that's not acceptable to us, because then you're not using the Absolute Latest And Greatest(TM), and we can't possibly allow that because you absolutely must have all of our latest updates to keep your computer safe! We're sorry (snicker) that your games have stopped working, but we've decided for you that this is better than the 0.001% chance of getting a virus! Have fun now!

...Yeah, ok, I may be a bit salty.

Unfortunately, there's not really any way to prevent Windows from installing updates on Windows 10 if they're "Important Updates" aside from a registry hack to trick Windows into thinking you're on a metered connection.

I don't think this has much to do with the updates, because uninstalling them and doing system restores didn't fix the problem.
