Hi. I am not talking here about which browser to use. I have legitamit websites blocked. I was told that in windows, there is a an address for the search engine that is used to do searches. Somewhere in internet and networking. Can't seem to find it. Can anyone help me here please.

Its a kind of database look up system.

Microsoft makes it close to impossible if you are talking about the search that you find on windows key pop up. You can change the default browser will change what is launched if you would click on a web search result.

The problem is that search box search the local pc , stuff you have stored in microsoft linked to your account, and then the internet. You will find registry hacks that people have disabled the ability to search internet but microsoft constantly changes stuff so these do not always work. The latest is their stupid AI stuff that like contera you can only hide a but not actually fully delete.

I really wish linux was a valid alternative to microsoft bloatware.

Not sure if someone has figured out how to registy hack the latest search since they added the AI patch. I know they key way to block most microsoft stuff is to use a firewall and block all the IP addresses microsoft uses. This though has gotten more complex since even microsoft is starting to use their competitors data centers like cloudflare, amazon, akamei, etc

I asked this question a few years ago. And managed to solve it. It is stored somewhere in windows, the default look up engine that web browsers use. I have been there but can not work out how I got there. Somewhere in networking, you can change the http link to what the browser goes for. This is not a firewall isue as I do not have one. I have also turned off anti virus to help me here.

It is not the default lookup engine it is the default browser and the inside the default browser you set the default search engine. This microsoft has allowed because the EU forced them to.
I forget where it is set but it is in the main settings page someplace no registry hacking to change it. The default is using edge to search with bing set as the search destination.

..............a added thought most browsers offer to make themselves the default search so you can likely set this in your preferred browser.
