This has something to do with my issue with the version of my Windows 10 OS from the shop where my notebook was bought when they installed the wrong OS with Pro instead of Home SL.

I could have done the repair myself but my father insisted that I return it to them to keep the warranty (I'm not sure if it was voided if I did the re installation myself) so I sent it back and was returned after 1 week. I thought it was already corrected and now I face the same problem again with Home (another cracked version) installed instead of Home SL. Now that I am pissed off, I won't ever send again my laptop to the shop and I want to do it myself to avoid inconvenience to my part. Is there a way to change Home to Home SL?

The downloaded ISO will be a more recent build.

I would see about spreading the news about that shady business. Local news stations love it when businesses are scamming customers.

Yes. I was confident because I used the same ISO USB to upgrade the laptop of my classmate fro 8.1 to 10 but it didn't. It's a Windows 10 Anniversary Update. My laptop is now the Anniversary also

So, you paid for one thing initially but received another thing. I'd contact M$ 1-877-696-7786 and see what your serial key is for.

As far as 10's 1703 download reverting to 1603(not positive about those numbers) I just don't understand.

I used the USB download and my PC hasn't gotten a mind of its own just yet. If it did I'd be looking to the event viewer and to Microsoft.

Now I can look here as well. Hopefully Colif or someone else can educate us.

Used an app called SHOWKEYPLUS... my installed OEM key is definitely for Home SL

Did you purchase the notebook new?

Does it have a serial key sticker on its base or someplace else? I would be talking with that shop. The monetary difference between the single language edition and pro isn't small nor is the feature list. They are taking advantage of people. I'd also be talking with M$.

Yes its new... ASUS X456UQ with Exclusive ASUS Global 2 Years warranty

just as well Windows 10 S isn't out yet or this will get confusing fast. You don't want it, it restricts installation of apps to things on the store... no thatnks. Keep that evil away from me, careful what OS is on next PC if you buy OEM.

The instructions show to make sure ISO is made as SL before installing it, that should be enough to stop Win 10 activating itself based on the previous licence that is likely tied to machine on their servers.

If you have a SL licence key, enter it during install process, don't click skip or PC may use the other licence

Well I am worried because I am using a pirated copy

And to be clear that is not by choice. The shop owner needs to fix this.

I think simplest answer is buy an actual licence to home and just enter the new licence in settings/update & security/activation
change product key - I think this would work, its under there so u can upgrade to Win Pro, it should also accept a new home key I think, or just buy Pro to play it safe.

easier than a clean install. You legit then.

The laptop was advertised with Windows 10 Home but I never knew what was installed on day 1 because the day after it was purchased, the touchpad malfunctioned due to factory defect so I sent it back that was the first time I sent it for warranty

What make is netbook? Shouldn't op talk to makers and not a shop? I would have thought its the responsibility of the OEM who made it to have right version/licencing. I assume making a laptop slightly above a normal shops ability?

Yes, I did suggest buying new as obviously shop doesn't intend to be legal. I didn't think about it much...

If a shop is installing cracked versions of the OS, I'd rat them out to Microsquishy as fast as I possibly could. It's one thing when an individual does it (it's still Wrong), but something else entirely when it is part of someone's standard business model. That "shop" needs to wither and die.

Well I don't know the shop is just a shop they have outside sources for other services.
I asked them just now and they did not know what happened because during warranty claims, they just send the device to another shop.
Looked at the service slip when I sent it back it was sent to another shop who did the job (specifically in Manila here in the Philippines)

It may not be working because the version is cracked.

Please accept my apologies to whomever I misinformed. I had it backwards.
