Hey guys,

So I changed the boot number of cores to 4 (there were 8 in total) in msconfig boot settings as I thought the default was at 1.

Now I can't start to Windows (BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO), however I can access command prompt, is there a way to increase number of core processors back to 8 via cmd?

I don't have any back ups so I will need to fix the issue. I also cannot boot to safe mode, I just get the BSOD again.

Thanks all!

[OS = Windows 10]

Solution

You need to follow the instructions, then set the bios to boot from whatever media you installed it on.

Thanks

I went through everything and I am unable to boot in Safe Mode. It just reverts to the BSOD and takes me to "Automatic Repair" where I only have the cmd prompt to use and everything else is Catch22

Thanks for your reply,

Could you specify on what you mean by some kind of boot disk?

and is the program EasyBCD easy to use? I also cannot access Windows at all, only the Command Prompt, can I still use easyBCD?

I am not well versed with these things :S

The problem is that I am unable to access Windows to reset my Boot settings from msconfig back to 8 Cores from 4.

The issue was brought on by the fact that I changed it from 8 to 4.

One of the options for easyBSd is bootable itself, it will then find the files that hold the information accessed though msconfig and allow you to edit them, it'll look kind of familiar.

Thanks again,

So where exactly would I start?

of the three options on the neosmart website pick the right hand one.

Once you boot from that use the easyBCD program that will already be installed.

Look for # of cores options and change it to auto. Save that and then try to boot normally. Whilst doing that change anything else that you modified.

So Easy Recovery Essentials
So by boot disk you mean like a USB? I wont need to have a boot disk with Win 10?

Have you tried system restore or using the "bootrec" commands via command prompt?

My Mobo can definitely boot from usb.

My only other computer is a mac and basically, I bought and downloaded Easy Recovery Essentials iso file onto a USB and booted it from that with the exact same error and results.

Do I have to burn the iso file onto the USB drive or something?

System restore won't work because I dont have any points saved.

I tried bootrec FixMbr and FixBoot but these options did not solve my issue. I am unsure if I should use the other Bootrec functions because I am afraid it might deepen the hole I am in.,
Thanks!
