Hello all,
Looking to upgrade from my AMD FX-8120 CPU to a new Skylake i5-6500:
http://www.newegg.com/global/ie/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117563&cm_re=i5_6500-_-19-117-563-_-Product

I will be using this motherboard which supports DDR3: http://www.newegg.com/global/ie/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132572&cm_re=lGa1151-_-13-132-572-_-Product

With my DDR3 Ram(16GB):
https://www.dabs.ie/products/kingston-8gb--1-x-8gb--hyperx-fury-series-1866mhz-ddr3-cl10-dimm-hx318c10f-8-9DCF.html

to save some money as I have read the difference between DDR3 & 4 is unoticable in gaming.

My main reason for upgrading is while playing MGSV:TPP I only get 45fps when all the action is happening/built up areas and the same with GTAV. Then Fallout4 only gets about 30FPS in city's etc. Looking to get these games to lock at 60Fps with high settings at 1080p.
I am also upgrading with better performance in mind for Dayz.

Do you think this will be worth it guys or any other suggestions for me like going for an i5-4690K instead and sticking with the older chips? I will be upgrading again in another 3 years.

My current setup is Motherboard > ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0
CPU > AMD FX-8120 @ 4GHz & Hyper TX3 EVO cooler
GPU > AMD R9 290
PSU > 650W XFX XXX PRO Edition Semi Modular
HDD > 240Gb Kingston Hyper X SSD & 1TB Seagate 7200RPM
RAM > 16GB HyperX Fury Series 1866MHz DDR3
OS > Windows 8.1 64-Bit
Thank you for all answers and help in advance.

Thank you so much for your quick reply, I assume you agree with going for the DDR3 Mobo combo to save money & no real gain in performance? and that the i5-6500 is a better upgrade than a i5-4690?
I'm trying to squeeze every bit of performance for the money.
Thanks again I hope i'm not confusing you.

Yup, DDR4 really doesn't have any difference over DDR3 in terms of gaming. And yes, the 6500 is a better upgrade than the 4690. It's newer, and it's overclockable.

That's great to hear I shall go with that then, thank you so much for your time.
Will post an update once I rebuild the PC with the performance in these games listed for anyone interested.

Personally I will not upgrade until I start to see that most games are not playable, and this hasn't happened yet for me. But if you can afford to upgrade and you are not happy with your current CPU's performance then go for it! The i5-6500 is definitely an upgrade!

Something is wrong here though.... I can't speak for GTAV or MGS, but I own the FX-4170, the FX-6100 and the FX-8120 in several computers at home; all of them paired with a GTX 560 Ti, and I have never seen any of those dropping below 60fps @ 1600x900 res with graphics maxed out in Fallout 4.

When Fallout's system requirements came out the first time I literally laughed at how exaggerated the system requirements were. I don't know how you can get only 30fps with the FX-8120 since my specs are similar or worse than yours.

Thank you for your reply, as for Fallout 4 i did not mention it is not a "legit" version of the game and am running it without any patches, this may have something to do with it?..

As for the upgrade itself I now have a Dilemma in upgrading at all.
1. I have read that using 1.5V ram on the DDR3 Skylake motherboards can damage the IMC over time and I do not want to chance this.
2. I did not realise Newegg shipping to Ireland did not include Customs Charges and will cost me €550 just for the i5-6500, motherboard and 16GB DDR4 ram which is not worth an additional 20FPS in my opinion.
I can get an i5-4690 and DDR3 motherboard for €345 delivered from a UK site which may be a better choice Price/performance wise. Thank you for your time.

Not trying to be smart but,

1. There is no RAM compatibility list on the ASUS Z170-P D3 support pages, can't find one with a google search.

2. The Newegg UK site still calculates a "Estimated VAT/GST & Duty" Charge after inputting Ireland and the Postal code at checkout.

EDIT: Found a RAM compatibility list http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/Z170-P-D3/Z170-P_D3_DRAM_QVL.pdf

Does not list my RAM but all other Kingston 1.5v Rams are supported.
Thanks for your help.
