Hello Tom's Community,

I am going to change my current HDD to a SDD with 1TB of HDD. I have Windows 7 currently installed in my old HDD and I was wondering if I could use the same Window's 7 code when I change out my HDD? Same question with McAfee security software?

Also what size of SDD would be recommended for Windows 7? I hear that it takes up 20GB of space, but would I need more room for other OS stuff?

A 128GB is the smallest I'd generally recommend.
Why?
1. A Windows installation is much more than 'just Windows'. Every application you install takes up space on the C, even if you install it elsewhere.
2. You need to leave some free space for TRIM to do its thing. 1-15% or so.
3. A 64GB will 'work' but you'll be chasing free space forever.

As for the installation - do you have the disk and product key? If so, install and go.
