So for convenience reasons, i wanted to switch to 10.1.0.0 and 10.1.1.0 on my main and sub router, which were previously configured as 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.10.1 respectively.

I can't seem to figure out how to setup the proper subnet masks for both, such that on the main router, 10.1.0.1 - 10.1.0.254 would be available, and 10.1.1.1 - 10.1.1.254 would be for the sub router

also worth mentioning that both routers are on a separate DHCP service.

Solution
Simple, use 255.255.255.0 mask as before, for 254 hosts. This is really de-facto, 'everybody does it that way, why? 'cuz if 254 hosts is not enough, you got some sort of mansion, and you have a "guy" setting this up for you.

254 hosts always means, by inspection, if you remember your math, tells you your hosts live on the last octet of the IP, for easy recognition, just look at it, when one use another mask, you actually have to think about it to subnet properly. Who wants to think? use what's simple and at-a-glance, done.
