I bought a laptop display months ago to 1080p with 144hz framrate, it was 1080p with 120hz when i bought the laptop. My laptop is asus tuf FX505DV i dont know if it caused by another problem but after changing my display playing games my laptop performance felt a bit degraded. I cleaned my laptop often and i use thermal liquid and got 70-80 on cpu and gpu when playing newest games but every heavy game had this dropping frame per second while using full resolution with fps capped to 144 despite having recommended specs on the game. so i need to change my resolution to 720 and cap fps to 60 to make the game playable.

Have you mistakenly removed the thermal pad(Is it so called in English?) of your GPU?
was that supposed to be installed on the gpu chip? i remember changing thermal paste on to small square thing around the gpu chip i dont know it was thermal pad but when i tried to remove it feels stickier than on the gpu or cpu chip

There should be thermal paste on the GPU and thermal pad on VRAM(yes it's the small black square around the GPU die).
I once encountered the same problem with you as I removed all these thermal things for GPU&VRAM.
Sadly I don't know a lot about laptops, so I hope that my reply will draw the attention of other users to help you 🙁
