Hi, I just installed a game to my system, and I made a mistake while choosing a location for it's instal directory. How can I move it? Is it okay to just cut/paste the folder or should I do anything more? No steam/Origin/Battlenet, it's installed from an external CD, and since it took me quite a while, I'd rather skip doing it again.

You should be able to cut an paste the directory to a desired location on your hard drive. But may require you to reinstall so the launcher knows where to be directed to.
If installed via the likes of origin or steam. Move the directory. Uninstall the game using the game client e.g. steam and then perform the install again but this time set the install directory to the location of where the game have been moved to. The installer will pick up that all the files are already in the folder so wont need to load them onto your pc again. Job done

more detail here http://lifehacker.com/how-to-move-a-pc-game-to-another-hard-drive-without-re-1714706774. Look at option two

I asked can it be done without reinstalling, that answer didn't really help

The part that takes time for the install is the loading of the files onto the system from the disk. The the reinstall will take a matter of a couple of minutes once you direct the install to the new file directory. As it won't have to load the files off the disk again as they're already in the folder. I gave an example for origin/steam as it applies to most programs.

1. Move program files to desired directory
2. Uninstall program from its original location
3. Run installer which will require you to use the disk
4. Direct the installer to install the game/program in the directory where you moved the files to
5. Installer will run and pick up that all the files are already in the folder. Meaning it will speed through the process as it won't need to copy them over from the disk (that's the part that takes time when doing the first install)
6. Installer will complete and you will be able to use the program once more

There is no other way of moving the program without re-running the installer due to the way windows works.

There is also tool called application mover that you can try.
