Hello All,

Recently I have been playing a video game called CSGO and on a "increasing FPS guide", the person said to:
- Go into "msconfig" in the search bar
- Go under "Boot" heading
- Select "Advanced Options"
- And tick "Number of Processors" and changing it to the maximum amount

I was just wondering whether or not this will cause any harm to my computer because I have heard stories of it either increasing performance or decreasing performance and in worse case situation that your computer will not boot up.

I was just wondering whether or not this will effect my computer and/or cause any harm to ?

Help would be very appreciated :)

cpu : ryzen 5 2600

yes change it, i did it too.
it only forces your pc to use all available cpu cores.
normally they are limited.
so if your cpu has 8 cores you select 8 cores, nothing will happen its a normal setting no harm or danger.

If the box is left unticked and the setting is grayed out Windows will use all available processors even if there's a gray '1' in the window. That's the default setting.

If you tick the box and set it to a number then that's all it will use. So if you've a 6 core 12 thread CPU and set it to '12 Processors' and then upgrade your CPU to an 8 core 16 thread it will continue using only '12 processors' until you go back in and change it.

Not a big deal but something easily forgot. I'd leave it unticked and grayed out unless you want to limit the number of processors Windows uses for some reason.

BTW...you can easily see the processors Windows uses by checking Task Manager Performance tab and using the show individual processors option.
