Cheap Graphics Card for High Definition Video Playback

I'm building a new system. I'm trying to make it cheap, but not too cheap. I want to play 1080p videos without glitches. Would a 8400gs, with a 64-bit memory interface, suffice? I'm currently looking at:

HD 4xxx series card have better hd coding than the geforce cards so I suggest looking at their offerings.

It is all in the eye of the beholder. 8400gs is certainly better than a gf7200. But HD4350 is better than the 8400gs even better than the 9300/400 cards and it costs between 30 and 40 USD.

Note that he is only interested in HD movies, not games. I too would like the answer to that question - would a 8400gs be enough, given that one doesn't care for games at all?

I would never suggest HD4350 as a gaming card. Its strong point is how well it handles HD playback. Ati cards have had the edge over nvidia cards in that field for the last generations. The HD4350 is a generation newer than the 8400gs but like I said it is in the eye of the beholder what is acceptable to some is not for somebody else.

An 8400gs can play 1080p but all the post processing is not perfect.

An 8600 or 9400 would do a better job depending what program and set up you are using ofc
