Cheapest 1400x900 resolution card

I've got a friend with an old computer not worthy of a decent video card. He did just get a 1400x900 wide screen LCD. Of course his existing video card won't run that resolution and all the non-native resolutions look like crap. So I've been looking around for a cheap card and can't find any documentation on what resolutions are supported. Perhaps all the new cards do, but I'm looking in the $30 range, which tends to mean new cards need not apply. I would really like to avoid buying a card only to find out it doesn't support the needed resolution.

This 5 year old Dell has an AGP slot of indeterminate speed and PCI slots available. Suggestions? Links?

Well as far as i know that any decent video card can run that resolution , just install the drivers which came with the monitor .

That's what I thought, until my collection of five year old video cards all bombed out, now I'm a little gun shy. I found out it has an AGP 4x slot (will all AGP 8x cards work?). One other tip, this machine isn't used for gaming, just IE and Office.

GeCube Radeon 7000 64MB AGP 8x

Anyone have a preference?

The 9550 is the newest of the bunch. Just for reference the 7000 and 7500 specs you posted seem a bit suspicious since the 7000 was essentially the original Radeon, and the 7500 was its first update. 128MB or 8x AGP shouldn't be on either of these cards.

Hmm, it turns out $10 more (after rebate) quadruples the RAM to 256MB.

How much RAM does Vista like?

Even in Vista you shouldn't really need large amounts of video memory because with any of those cards you won't be running the high end interface. Even if you were, the speed of the card would be more of a hinderance than the amount of texture memory. That being said, the 9550 should easily be the fastest in that bunch, and it certainly supports more advanced features. Its a DX9 capable whereas the 7x00 series is not. I'm not sure what Vista requires as its minimum, but a 7x00 seems iffy.
