Hello I was in the market for a pc with gtx1080s in sli.. My budget is 1900 and I know it's not good to skimp on all other parts.. But I'm fine with having a pc that will only last 2 years... Can anyone help me put anything together for this price range? Thanks! P.s. If I can skimp even more for cheaper then great!! I just wanna run 4k at 60fps for all games and I know those gpus can pull it off together on ultra settings..

Solution

no man , if you want to upgrade later get one gtx 1080 now and later get another one ..

plugging in extra card is waaay easier than changing the cpu ..

also , never get i5 , you see , in case you dont want to overclock and run things cooler , the i7 will run at 4ghz all cores , while the i5 will run at 3.5 ghz only ..

never get i5 for expensive system , i5 are for mid range system .

if you can get money later , delay the SLI ... and get better mobo ...

From which country are you buying and is that $1900 ? US DOLLARS ?

You could definitely go a little cheaper if you wanna save ~$60 and go with an older intel platform, and you could also go more expensive with a more interesting case than that one. This will definitely last more than 2 years, that i5 can be overclocked and is plenty for gaming for many more years.

and there's the cheapest you could go. honestly, you're not likely to even notice the difference from the build above (strictly gaming), except for the lack of SSD. but i would definitely recommend keeping an SSD in this build, it makes a big difference overall. but i guess it's not necessary. also, you can buy a windows 10 cd-key from any cd-key vendor online (I bought mine for $25).

if you're really serious about a budget, hunt craigslist, ebay, and reddit /hardwareswap/ for your processor (i5-3/4/6XXX), SSD or Harddrive, Case, etc. etc. I built mine around an i7-3770k + 8GB RAM + Motherboard + Case I found for about $200 on craigslist. For example, this is an excellent deal after browsing /hardwareswap/ for 2 minutes: https://www.reddit.com/r/hardwareswap/comments/4vjj63/usavahi54690k_asus_z97a_750w_psu_evo_212_cooler/

This build must have i7 !!!

it is SLI 1080 , i5 is a bottleneck !

When you pay $1200 for GPU , you dont go short $100 for i5 !!! you get i7

The i7 is not helpful when it comes to gaming, it makes almost no difference. An i5 with the same clock speed will perform exactly the same in nearly every game out there. Sorry, you really don't understand what 'bottleneck' means. Once you have a processor as strong as an average i5, the only 'bottleneck' in the PC for gaming is your GPU. And you do go $100 short for an i5 if you read the post, which specifically asks for the cheapest viable 1080 SLI build...

have you ever tried GTX 1080 in SLI ? have you ever tested this beast and compared i5 VS i7 ? NO one did yet , and you dont Gamble that for $100 !!! heavy Threaded games will make a HUGE DIFFERENCE .

besides your GTX 1080 also is not real and out of stock , and ASUS TURBO cards are bad .

dont just go and pick the lowest from pcpartpicker and then put it to people like that .. this is wrong . you are not giving advice you are just picking the lowest price from the site and giving it to him. you did not even notice that the low price comes from "out of stock" .

have a nice day .

good choices but still need cpu cooler , case and harddisk ,

The Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming is a very good card .

you need to increase the budget a little for cpu cooler , case , and harddisk

$1900 is hard for GTX 1080 in SLI with acceptable components .

you cn also get a better motherboard if you wish.

oh sorry :) thats the build I was putting , your link is wrong , look in the site , there is a "permalink" copy that link and post it :)

Kkensa, by all means, purchase an i7 or a fast Xeon E3 processor if you want to fit it into the budget. They're great processors. But Samer1970 really does not know what he's talking about, and if you're interested in understanding bottlenecking a GPU with your CPU, check out this very helpful video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAgpvWc4VBM

Like I said before, most (MOST) games are not taking advantage of more than 4 cores. The only difference between an i5 and an i7 is that the i7 is 4 cores + hyperthreading, which effectively makes it 8 virtual cores. Any game out there that loves to have a ton of cores to play with will run better with an i7, but the vast majority will not. As to his point in me linking out of stock GTX 1080's - most 1080s are out of stock right now. So unless you absolutely have to order it today, I would wait until the cheapest model becomes available. The MSRP was announced at $600, and personally, I would wait until 2 come in stock at $600 if you're on a budget.

This Video was made in 2013 we are in late 2016 ... GTX 1080 is a huge leap and in SLI they DO bottleneck the CPU , and we are living in 2016 where Games are/will be using more threads giving huge advantage ...

The vast majority you are talking about are old games ... you need to update your info about games in 2016 and years to come.

and Skylake Xeons wont work on Z170 Motherboards ...sadly Intel restricted it to Xeon chipsets (forgot the number)

I'm sorry but saying that you need an i7 for games is simply misinformation.

My sister and I both have 980TI SLI rigs, but she has an i5 4690K and I have an i7 5820K. Her i5 keeps up with my i7 in every single game. 1080 SLI is not going to change the fact that games do not benefit from hyperthreading.

old games ... old facts ...

This is the last post I will make on the subject, because I don't want to derail this thread, but here is a recent test of 21 games with HT on and off. You can interpret the results however you choose.

You guys are both verry knowlagable... More than me. My max budget would be about 2000... I don't like those cheaper cards of the 1080 but I do like the founders addition... I just don't want any bottlenecks on the CPU.. That's kinda the entire reason I'm getting 2 1080s lol and it would be a wast being bottlenecked... I love the 6700k Iv used it in a build but it's too expensive for me.. Do you guys know of another CPU that won't bottleck in 4k that is cheaper???
