Hello,
I'm curious about setting up a home server. The idea is somewhat new to me, though I am familiar with the idea of leaving one's computer on for remote access.
My main interest in a server is access/management of storage. I'm considering setting up a home surveillance system and want to be able to centrally store video data but also be able to remotely access this data (and live camera feed if possible) while away from home.
My primary needs/concerns:
- Always on system (or wake on LAN?)
- Affordable (CHEAP)
- Modest specs
- Small-ish Hardware if possible
- LOW-Power definitely
- Ethernet Port
- Remote Access
What would be some good options for this? I've been reading up on Mini ITX and Micro ATX computers. Would one of these do what I need?
More specifically on these ITX/ATX devices, are they basically out-of-the-box ready? Or what else would I need to buy to run one? (I have some experience in assembling PC parts, even some basic soldering if it came down to it)
Thanks!
