Checkerboard screen after booting and then restarted??

After my system booted i clicked on steam and then there was a notification for deals etc, then the screen had a red checker type pattern, my pc then randomly restarted. I think i saw a red light coming from the es debug light on my motherboard (msi h110m pro vd) but i may be wrong and i think i heard a high pitch but quiet beep. Can someone tell me what the problem is and provide a fix?

Sounds like a graphic component taking a dive. Does it continue to happen or was it a one of thing?

hmm. Couldve been cause by a brownout or overheating or something, id check your components for visible signs of damage, and make sure they heatsincs are clean and the fans are operational.

Well ive been getting notmal temps although insuspect the pc being pretty dusty now

I checked inside the case, looks like nothings has gone awry
