As I'm moving to my first gaming build, I've decided to top it all off with a new mechanical keyboard. Although much of it's use will be for gaming, I also will be using the keyboard for general typing and/or school work. I have read that the MX Brown switches are a hybrid between the typing and gaming experience, which sounds like what I need. As this will be my first mechanical keyboard, I want to know your guys' experiences and opinions with this type of use. Will MX Browns be good for gaming as a compromise?

Solution
generally blues and browns are recommended for typists while red and blacks are recommended for gamers.

blues have tactile and audible feedback. browns only have tactile. reds and blacks are linear switches without any feedback or letoff.

you can type or game on browns but tping on linear switches isnt so good.

i think you have it about right!

make sure you dont spill any liquid inside cherry mx keyboards though. i accidentally did and the liquid drains straight to the keyswitch mechanisms and gums them up. i'm going to be moving back to my oldschool ibm model m as it has a tray inside so spills are typically a non-issue.

just thought i would pass that information along...
I prefer Browns but it is entirely personal preference. Everyone likes different tactile feedback. The Browns are a great compromise between the clicky blue keys and non-click black in my opinion and they are very suitable for gaming as well as general use. They have a better touch over a dome keyboard. I'm a touch typist with a light touch and Browns are great for me.

Yup, I had the same use case as you and went for Brown switches.
Really, a Blue keywswitch will game just as well as a Brown its just that for some reason Browns are considered the compromise between Red and Blue. For all intents ans purposes, a Brown is just a quieter blue, other than that they are the same.

I used to swear by the Focus 2000 keyboard back in the day. They all used Alps White keys and were excellent to type on. I've tried a lot of different mechanical switches to find that feel and Browns come very close to them in my opinion.

I agree with your answer because I myself prefer browns. No switch is better than the other they are all just modified for a users preference and liking!
