Why would a WinXP Pro computer run chkdsk every time it boots? The chkdsk /f does not find anything to repair, yet the system insists on the time consuming scan every boot.

This is a new SATA II Western Digital 320Gb drive, less than two weeks in use.

Run a disk check from within Windows by using right click (not from the command line), see if it completes normaly or terminates at the end of pass 1; some times chkdsk finds errors it can't fix.
