CHKDSK stuck at 11% and HDD led not flashing

So I have been getting bsods lately and searched up the error and one of the solutions was to run CHKDSK/ r so, I did and CMD said something about me not being able to do it in windows so and asked wether I wanted to run it after the next reeboot so I said yes. Restarted my PC and it was going well until it stopped at 11% and it has been at that percentage for 3 hours now and what annoys me the most is how the HDD led isn't flashing should I pull the plug (more likely click the reset button on my case) or let it run all night?

sounds like your HDD is going bad. let it run overnight and if it is still not progressing by tomorrow then rest the PC and backup any impotent data off it ASAP

Just checked back on it and it started back up hopefully solved my problems. But thanks for responding so quickly and... Almost giving me a heart attack

Checkdisk is an intensive surface scan....


If the hard drive was marginal, it is now even more so....

When a hard drive is in doubt, always prioritize getting data off of it before doing an intensive/drive-stressing checkdisk, etc...

Hello lukeskywoolner, what brand is your HDD? Yes, a CHKDSK will last a long time and it is always a good idea to have a good back up plan in place.

The conventional wisdom by tech experts on backups is known as the 3-2-1 method. Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example)
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster.

Who ever can say "waited and came back to it working fine(from the person with the problem)" gets the answer because I can't make it my own comment-yes I know I didn't have any backups of my files but one thing is, do I get any results?

A fairly good bet it is a Seagate, no offence, but they are a ___; in 25 years of building PC, Seagate is the only brand where I have never thrown away a working HDD drive because it is too small; they all died young (6-29 months), and the ones that died inside warranty, Seagate failed to honour the warranty and replace them.

In contrast, I have had ONE Toshiba drive die, No Hitachi, no IBM, no Samsung and no Western Digital, although TBH, I havent had a WD HDD in 10 years, all mine are now Hitachi, Samsung, or Toshiba.
