Choosing a CPU

Recently I bought an Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard, and now I'm confused in what CPU to buy, as the one's with the 1151 socket are better than the 1150, but I feel I haven't used it as much and it is new. This is why I'm asking if someone could help me decide, if I should stick with this socket type and buy the typical i7 models, or change completely to the skylake (probably would be the i5-6600k) and buy a another motherboard but woth the 1151 socket compatobility.

My PC specs:
- i5-4590
- Asus Maximus VII Hero
- Asus GTX 750ti 2GB
- HyperX Fury 16GB
- Tacens Radix VI 550W

Any help is appreciated.

Solution
yes the Corsair VS550w will work fine with a gtx1060/rx480. The i5 4590 is a good combo with one of those gpus, the gpus are comparable to a gtx 970/980 so as you can see it's a pretty big upgrade from a gtx 750ti.
Switching to 1151 will require another mobo, cpu, and ram.

Is your PC still able to do what you want it to do? If so, do you really need any upgrades?

Switching to an i7 won't necessarily give you better performance in games, and might not be worth the upgrade.

If you feel you want to upgrade to Skylake let us know your budget.

i7-4790k is a good match for the motherboard. Though if you are gaming that would make for a very lopsided system.

I have more concerns with that power supply then anything else. Probably fine for the low-power config you have now, but I wouldn't trust it with an i7 or a bigger GPU.

Apart from college stuffs I have to do, I mainly game on my PC, mostly LOL, although I wanna play Battlefield 1 when it comes out. I've tried the beta and at low graphics settings, my average FPS was at 60, although it went down sometimes to 40fps. I don't know which of my components bottleneck my overall PC, but that's why I want to upgrade my CPU and GPU. Do you think I should focus more in a new GPU instead of a new CPU?

I currently have 250€ to spend on my PC, although at christmas I'll get about 100€ more for my PC.

Thanks Corwin65 and Eximo for helping me on my decision. As for what you were talking about Eximo, do you recommend me to stay with the 1150 socket, and change before anything else my PSU? If so, which PSU do you recommend me to have, having on mind that I can't spend a lot of money?

Thanks hdgaming.
As I'm thinking future wise, I'm starting to ask help for each component suggestion, to start having the desired components that I wanna buy when I earn money in my mind. As of now, thanks to all your help, I think I'll buy a new PSU (I don't know which one yet), then a new GPU, and finally a new CPU.

PS: Here's my GPU post if you're interested in watching it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3179513/choosing-gpu.html

So a PSU with the same watt power like the one I have now, but certified with the 80+ silver program would be ok? I've seen that the EVGA 500 W1 is a recommended PSU if you have a budget build. What do you think or recommend?

Ok. Thanks for the help everyone!
This PSU costs around 66€ in my country. i think it's rather expensive right?

I would go a little higher on the PSU quality myself. It is the core of the system and is the first line of defense for your expensive hardware.

Were I buying right now, probably a Corsair RMx model or an EVGA P2 model. Occasionally they are on sale at competitive prices, but not right now. Seasonic has a new Prime line-up, but they started with Titanium and haven't released cheaper models yet.

Any specific model that won't overpower my hardware, and isn't on the slight end of price for my budget?

I've found the EVGA W1 550W PSU for 47€ which is actually cheap compared to the other PSU which are around 67€. Should I go for this EVGA?

I found that the Corsair VS550W is actually pretty cheap too, being only 3€ more than the EVGA W1 550W (50€ PSU).

So my future plans for my PC, are to buy the Corsair VS550W PSU, before changing any other components. Then I should upgrade my GPU into a RX 480/GTX 1060 (still deciding on which one to buy). Finally, my CPU can wait a pair of years more until the CPU starts to struggle more, and depending on my budget, I'll stay with the 1150 socket type or change into a 1151 socket.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to help me decide everything about my PC.

OK. I think I'll close this post for now.
Thanks to everyone for your help! 😀
