@trendyPCgeek follows you too now Chris!

And guess what, within the first 24 hrs of joining Twitter, i get followed by @IntelIndia, @ and two "PowerPointPresentaions" or something like that.

Strange places, these social networks...

"I realize that there are plenty of Tom’s Hardware regulars who have no interest in social media, and that’s fine."
Very intuitive - I'm one of them 😉

However, I feel Tom's is lacking big-time in YouTube, and IMO that's what really needs to be explored. Hmm http://www.youtube.com/user/chrisangelini I'd have both a Gaming and a Review channels if needed hire a guy to do it. A million or two or three views translates to big attention and big bucks.

Tablets right now has a very polarized following - the new Mac vs PC (Android in this case). Thread carefully and there's more to it than 'Specs' - it's the environment. I see folks try to push Android while owning Apple iPhone's and iPad's...

Contests - yes more please! :)

Good Luck to you and TH and BoM in 2012!!!

Shipping to Canada... seriously? I used to be a backup for our warehouse guy where I worked a few years ago, and there were a couple of forms to fill out to ship via UPS internationally. Our primary warehouse guy was a highschool graduate and he could handle it. Duties/tarriffs are FAR cheaper than buying the prize, so personally I'd even be happy to pay them myself if I could participate in the contests. Yes, you would also probably have to tack on a "skill testing question" (basic arithmetic). ANYONE could generate one of these questions in seconds.

I guess you have lawyers advising against it, but I'm guessing those lawyers have never worked in a warehouse. It's hardly rocket science.

[citation][nom]Zeh[/nom]Chris, I guess this would be a good time to ask you again, since there's clearly a lot more people showing interest: what about the article about microstuttering? I've talked with you about it by Twitter (@ joseorth) and even emailed you a few suggestions. You said you had discussed it with the guys in Germany or something. So, what's the status? I'm really excited about the possibility of an article about that (with the suggestions and considerations I've sent you). I believe that knowing well the issue (and what affects it) is a large step forward to solve it.Just to remind you what the suggestions were:- How long does it take to render frames with 3 gpus compared to 2- How does a multi-gpu setup behave if you overclock one of the cards (be it the master or the slave). Since stuttering seems to happen on every odd numbered frame, overclocking the 2nd board might help.- Any differences if you use one or two bridges for two cards?- What if we use different cards, like a 6850+6870 and the 6950+6970 (to cover the 2gb cards aswell); maybe a 560 with a 560 Ti if it's even possible.- Are there any differences if we put the 6850 instead of the 6870 as the master (the card where we plug the dvi cable), or with the other possible combinations?- Any differences between DVI/HDMI/minidisplay ports? I'm confident there isn't, but what the hell.- Any differences between 60hz and 120hz monitors or multiple displays?- Do SSDs help? Does more/different system memory help? Does more GPU memory help (like with 2x6950s with 1 and 2 gbs).- And of course, how does the new generation behaves compared to what we currently have on the market.[/citation]
This is something they've said is happening, but I am not sure when. If it does not, I will do it myself. I have had interesting conversations with both graphics companies that indicate today's methods of measuring sub-second performance are not accurate. Fraps was simply not designed for this level of granularity. So, I'm on standby, to a degree, for tools able to more closely reflect what's happening in a microstuttering environment. And now that CES is over, I'll have more time, too :)

Video is something I'd of course like to do more of. BoM let go of its very popular video staff several years back, so it's up to local editors to create video content. In retrospect, I should have added a position for someone specializing in video here in Bakersfield to help with that!

Way to go "Torque79"...tell it like it is. Will you respond back to him, Chris? I hope you do, and stop listening to your "so-called lawyers". A load of crap! If you wanted toinclude us (Canadians) in your contests, you'de find a way...and it wouldn't "break the bank" either. I think you have a vendetta against us...I really believe it. Is it because we, per capita, are better at sports? Or is it something else? I wonder...hmmmm!

I think you guys should do a HTPC building contest. It would be way cheaper. You probably wouldn't have to do it every QTR and you could have a number of categories, (IE Size/price/sound (how loud)/heat etc) I think as more people drop cable and pick up Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, it will be more important in the future.

A contest is not the same as just shipping something out. They did send the Toms Hammer to Canada :)

It was fairly well covered. It sucks, but is beyond control this time.

So time to open a tomshardware.ca ?

I don't expect to see a tomshardware.ca, unfortunately it's probably not necessary because the interests of the US and Canadian consumers are so closely tied (as well as prices, at least as far as PC components these days) that I don't see why the content would be any different. I guess there could be some special interest articles on the particular limitations and problems associated with the CRTC, Canadian ISP monopolies and extreme high cost of both bandwidth and cell phone usage (even in areas of high population concentration such as Toronto). But then these kind of articles don't seem to happen much on Tom's because it's more of a political issue than hardware of course. That's unfortunate, because a lot of the people interested in these kinds of issues would go to sites like Tom's.

If there are investigative stories of interest, we're more than happy to look into them!

Linux coverage please ? You don't need to do that for graphics (covered by Phoronix.com usualy), but for general purpose hardware like CPUs and motherboards, it would be interesting to see if the latest *buntu installs and boots on the hardware (maybe a linux kernel compile test via phoronix test suite).

You get loads more of hardware than Phoronix. So a major site doing a bit of Linux testing would help 🙂

Absolutely. Adam Overa is on Linux coverage for us!

Chris and team keep up the great work !!

I have been here in the forums a long time ... and its a pleasure.

I think 2011 was a great one in terms of new innovations for the site, and we all certainly did a big forum tidy up, and started looking at a restructure in the forums with leadershp from Joe Pishgar. I really enjoyed helping the other mods with this.

The standard of articles here has dramatically improved over the last couple of years.

The benchmarking articles done by the German team are much better written / translated into English, and the articles from Don, Andrew, and Chris are all of a high calibre (apologies if I forgot anyone).

I'd particularly like to add that crashman's stuff (Tomas S) is always high on my list to read as he is keen to make sure we get good value from what we pay for our PSU's / CPU's / GPU's, and he is a lively responder in the comments sections for his articles.

We forum users like to engage with reviewers in the articles comments area, and that kind of communication by the editorial / review team makes toms what it is ... much more interactive than many of the other hardware sites.

Finally, the news team over at TG have pumped out so many little stories, links and news articles last year it is hard to see that they could expand on what is already pretty top notch. Getting some of the stories out a bit quicker might help if we put them on a 24hr rotating roster.

I think Jane and Markus will possibly want to kill me for that idea though ... I hope they remember I nuke their spam as a possible dispensation ...

I think 2012 will see toms get to the 920 ranking mark for websites ... which is one of the things I personally want to assist with. Over the past two years we have gone from around 1100 to about the 1000 mark. Getting into the 920's area means providing users with the help they want, and the articles most of interest, with a nice response time of the web pages.

We all want our users to keep coming back to toms ... and to recommend us to their friends.

:)

One thing I'd like to see in charts is the ability to search for older models. You guys are obviously keeping all the data in some kind of database, but you're only showing recent models in the charts. This makes sense, because there are so many models to compare already. The fact is, people often look at those charts to make a purchase decision while comparing to the hardware they already have. It's great to see that this ATI card is better than that Nvidia card in this price bracket, but how does it compare to the card I already own? Maybe I won't fork out $200 if it's to gain only 10fps in my favorite game.

The charts could include all the cards you guys reviewed over the years, and we can search or filter them and cross-reference them with the games and tests you used for the reviews. You select 2-3 cards, 4-5 tests, hit "compare" and you're ready to go! The same thing could be done for CPUs.

Happy 2012!

While his articles were nice, they are few and far between. Also they were not exactly what I asked for 🙂
