I got a strand of Christmas lights from someone @ school and I got the idea to use them as case lighting to make it look cool. What I know is that each light is 2.5 volts each and the biggest voltage a computer can output is 12 volts. What I would like to know is that is this a good idea and if so, how would I effectively do this?

Exactly, I wouldn't mess with making them run off the psu. Instead plug them straight into the wall. It might be fun to try but depending on the xmas lights they may be glass bulbs. Be careful they don't break against metal surfaces inside the case. Another consideration is heat.

If they're like these, I'd probably avoid them.

If they're the newer led they might be ok but still keep an eye on heat.

Even small led strip lighting warms up just a little, just make sure they don't significantly heat up your pc case or it's going to have all the components running warmer.

I already know what the current draw and the voltage of each light is... if I was to make the lights draw power from the psu, I would have to hook them up in a combination of series and parallel. yes i know this is pretty ghetto but all they lights were blue which is what the color theme of my build was going to be and I don't have much money to spend on led strips since they are 10 dollars a strand so yeah. oh btw they are not the giant glass bulbs they are the small incandescent bulbs
