Chrome browser tabs start closing, Taskbar unresponsive

I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate, I was Chrome browser I tried to open a tab, my current closes and a new one open, so I click on the tab(not the x) to see it and it closes I click on all my tabs to check, they close one by one. I try to reopen chrome from my task bar, mouse moves but nothing will click open. I can't even x out and close programs or folders I have open. I usually log off/on from keyboard or reboot and the problems goes away. but this happened several times this week. Anyway to fix this permanently other than Windows 10 upgrade?

Try a different browser like Firefox. I gave up on Chrome two weeks ago after frequent issues with it, even re-installing it made no difference. And curiously the exact same problems with Chrome occurred on both my computers on the same day. That was enough for me.

Used IE to download Firefox, installed it, no problems at all now.

I did what you said, opened up ie edge to download Firefox, but now I like ie so much.
