However, full disclosure, I have a more cynical view of the situation.
Allowing users to turn off notifications etc. means that end users may not see or otherwise be made aware of some ad that is being forced upon end users.
"New Outlook" - despite my refusals - was installed on my Windows 11 system. Wreaked havoc with respect to my emails, contacts, etc. Now I get emails with ad notifications. Thus far unblockable but (to be fair) easily deleted.
Efforts to revert back to Classic Outlook failed.
And, interestingly enough, Microsoft 365 just offered me some sort of $1.99 per month option to turn off such things.
Good software apparently not profitable enough.
Take a closer look and read of "Terms and Conditions", EUAs, Unsubscribes, Cookie pop-ups , etc.. May not be what they seem.....
