Yup, I got $45 in recurring charges at SprintPCS, and my bill is over
$57 with taxes and fees and recovery costs.

I'm in Denver. My T-Mobile bill's recurring charges this month
wereare $45.03- ($39.99 plan + $4.99 WAP + 5-cents for one text
message) and my total bill was $49.96.

A taxes really that much higher where you guys live? Prior to this,
in Kansas City last year, my cellphone taxes were about the same- my
$65/month two-phone Cingular bill was just under $72.

Interesting..... on a corporate discount plan with Nextel, my wife's phone
incurs more in taxes and fees than that on a cheaper rate plan in Colorado
Springs. $29.95 becomes almost $37.00.

On my March bill (Cingular, Philadelphia PA), there was

"Regulatory cost recovery fee" $3.00
FED universal SVC charge", 1.19
"State GR surcharge" 2.48
"Federal excise tax" 1.53
"State Sales tax" 3.11

All over-and-above the stated $45/month.

As opposed to RED apples? Cingular customers have always (AFAIK) roamed
freely and easily on the ATT network. Recently, that same coverage was
offered to ATT customers. That is, ATT customers now roam freely and easily
on the Cingular network. That's the way it should be, considering they are
the same company. Yeah, I know the deal isn't finalized yet, but that's a
mere formality. If you sign up with ATT now, you will be using the cingular
network NOW, and you will be a cingular customer before your contract
expires. So it's silly to answer (cingular or verizon?) with (neither.

They wish. It'll be 6 months minimum, and who knows what requirements
the FTC or the FCC may have.

I guess you don't remember Staples buying Office Depot. That mere
formality never happened.

And I guess you don't remember that the main reason that sale didn't go
through was they were #1 and #2 in thier business area with no close third
place to offer fair competition. AFAIK, Cingular and AT&T are not the only
dominate players in thier business. You still have Verizon, Nextel, Alltel,
and Sprint off the top of my head as players in the market.

Not true at all. There's Office Max, and also, pick any product they
sell, say "staples". The number one retailer for staples is:

Drum Roll:

With 9% of the market (not quite a monopoly) : Walmart

But that does not make them the number one office supply retailer. Bad
analogy.

Perhaps you should reread what I posted and not what you wanted to see
there. I said "they were" not "are". Things have changed since that deal was
to be done.

I can't even think of why you are comparing them to Walmart in any logical
way other than to obfuscate the issue. It's the office supply store business
that we're discussing. Not a particular item for sale.

Not only is it not silly but your analogy is moronic.

Using your analogy, if they use same equipment why not go with ATT with
1,150 minutes for $39.95?

Not bad at all. I buy office supplies at walmart as often as I buy office
supplies at staples. Selection and prices are roughly equal, so it doesn't
make that much difference to me. I can't remember the last time I bought
office supplies somewhere other than walmart or staples, but I know I've
spent roughly 50% of my office supply money at BOTH places. -Dave

That doesn't sound like such a bad deal, actually. Just as long as you go
into the contract realizing that you are actually signing with cingular, and
have no problem with that. We are cingular customers, but cingular isn't
offered in all areas. ATT is generally offered in areas that cingular is
NOT. So if you are looking for GSM service today, just sign up with
ATT/Cingular or Cingular, whatever is offered where you live. -Dave

The main thing is the industry favoring government now in place.

It was quite controversial when the Feds refused to allow Office Depot
and Staples to merge for far weaker reasons than might be presented in
the Cingular-AT&TWS case now.

I repeat it has hardly a mere formality that the buyout is going through
with Cingular. Likely maybe, a mere formality not so.

In my 10 years of cell usage, I (now this is my own personal opinion) have
found them to be all the same really. Very and signals, rude customer
service. I started with I think Airtouch was it in LA.

Knowing what I know now I should have signed with ATT and get rolled into
Cingular.

Where did you see AT&T 1150 min for $39.95?
In Southern California, it's $39.99 for 700 min
