Hi guys,

I'm wondering if I can run Civ 6 on my computer. I'm OK on 64 bit OS, 8GB of RAM and a 750Ti card but the processor could be an issue. I am sporting a now perhaps slightly ancient Core Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz which I have OC'd, with the help of some of you folks, to 3.2GHz.

Minimum spec is supposed to be Core i3 2.5, recommended is Core i5 2.5 (4th gen).

Will I be OK? If it's clock speed it looks good but when it comes to cores and threads I'm over my head. I can probably squeeze some more juice of out my Q6600 but I am no expert and if there are deeper issues than speed then that obviously won't help.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

So I am now running the game, actually really well, given the age of my system. (It's utterly fantastic by the way). One thing though: near the end of the game, standard map size, the ai turns are getting quite long and very near the end the game becomes unresponsive occasionally.

I have already turned quick movement and quick combat off and I had the game running at medium settings. Once I hit the late game issues I turned it down to low which solved them but robbed me of the wonderful graphics. I don't know what the load issue is but is there any mileage in increasing RAM from 8GB to say 16 GB and/or further OC'ing my processor to 3.6 from 3.2? Any thoughts most welcome.

Yeah, late game CIV is hard on just about every computer.

You'd be better off playing smaller games, as you don't have the CPU power for longer more complicated AI processing at the end game where they have to think about all their cities, all their units and all their enemies as well.

Any potential upgrades are better left just set aside for a new system, as you'd benefit much more from a modern system. Your CPU is 10 years old, so it definitely is around the time to get something new.

I'm sure you are right about smaller maps/fewer opponents. C'mon though, the processor may be ten years old but I've only had it for eight! I need to get my money's worth!! Seriously though I think you are right and perhaps Black Friday might be the day. Thanks for your help.
