My HDD in my laptop still has 500gb's out of 1tb missing after a clean install of windows 10. Everything seems to be gone, as I can't find it anywhere. Is there anyway I can get windows to recognize that the stuff is no longer in existence?

Solution
Hey there, Bigfatmeany.

Judging only by this description I can't really guess what happened with the rest of the storage capacity. If you think you might have drive issues, you should backup your important data, just to be on the safe side and try to figure it out afterwards. So after you've backed up everything, I'd recommend that you take a look at this article: http://www.howtogeek.com/125923/7-ways-to-free-up-hard-disk-space-on-windows/. When you scroll down, there are a couple of options, which might be able to help you figure out what's taking up all your space.
Also, would you please be so kind as to post a screenshot of what you see about your drive and its partition in Disk Management.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how...

Hi there, after about 2 days, I guess windows recognized what was going on. I restarted my computer, and it seemed to have just fixed itself. Thanks for the early help though.

That's a bit of a strange behavior, so I'd recommend that you keep your data backed up, no matter that everything seems to be running fine for now. This is always a sound advice. You could also download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostics tool and test the drive, just to make sure that everything's OK with it.

Cheers!

Will do, thanks!
