Clean Install on Unallocated Space?

Hello all,

I am doing a clean install of Windows. I deleted every partition I have from my hard drive (SSD). Now, I am left with only one place to install Windows 7, which is titled "Disc 0 Unallocated Space".

Do I need to create a partition to install Windows on, or can I just install it onto "Disc 0 Unallocated Space"?

Thank you.

During the install process you can create a partition yourself, so Windows will not occupy the entirety of the disk (in case you want to set up another partition on that drive), or you can do Windows' recommended install which will occupy all of the drive. If you are dedicating the drive to Windows, then do the recommended install, which will take care of the formatting for you.

What do you mean by the entirety? My hard drive is 128gb, windows will not use that much. I will still be able to install other things on it even after windows is installed right?

What boosted1g says - The Windows partition will allocate a single partition that occupies all of the drive, but not all of that allocated space has something written to it. Windows will occupy what space it needs to install the operating system (which will be several gigabytes), and the rest is usable system storage.

Doesn't Windows also create a 100MB partition for system purposes?

What would happen if, before I installed Windows, I created a partition that was the FULL size of the hard drive? Would it still create another partition?

Windows would probably suggest you wipe your drive to get rid of that oversized partition, so it could then have space to create its necessary partitions, but I cannot say for sure. I do not know why you would bother writing a partition onto the drive before install Windows when Windows will just erase it and install its own partition anyways. Creating your own custom-sized partitions is really only useful if you wish to limit the size of the partition Windows will work with.

So basically, I will be fine if I don't create any partitions myself, and install onto "Disc 0 Unallocated Space", correct?

yep, simple as that.
