Hi,

I've got two SSDs in my system; 1 M.2 which is where the OS is and it's not right, going to send it back. I'm about to do a fresh install onto the other SSD which will wipe it but I'm don't know how to wipe the M.2 where the OS will be as well?!?!

Thanks

Install the OS to the new ssd, plug m.2 in and format ?

After you install on the second ssd you can erase all aprtitions from your former bootable one. Granted the data will still be there. If you have sensitive data that really needs to be gone from the use an utility that is able to instruct the ssd to perform "ata secure erase". DO NOT, by any means, use clasical methods meant for hdds that are provided for that purpose.
Here's some detailed info: http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-securely-erase-an-ssd-drive/

The manufacturer should have some erase function. Like Samsung Secure Erase, in the Magician tool.

And why not? It's going back to the supplier. The OP's data will be safely overwritten.

Why not just microwave it for a half a second then? :)))

thanks for the answers so far,

The microwave option is maybe not ideal, I'm going to send it back and they're going to test it... but then again that'll ensure that they send me a new one :)

Samsung Secure Erase doesn't work (it's not recognised in that software, and it is a Samsung drive and I did download the latest software). One of the bits of evidence that it's goosed.

I've formatted it in windows but I've heard that the data remains and could be recovered in it fell into the wrong hands.

I'll try that Parted Magic software as suggested by Hlsgsz when I get back from work tonight

Thanks

Probably best you didn't microwave it if you want to return it for replacement. That would probably have ruined the controller as well as the transistor gates.
