cloak of non-detection-BG2

I recently put the cloak of detection on so I wouldn't have to hide in
shadows anymore with Yoshimo. Unforunately it seems he's always being
spotted making it impossible for backstabs. what's going on here?

IIRC the cloak prevents being discovered when hidden or invisible by
means of TrueSight or similar. So you still have to hide.

The cloak only works when hidden in shadows, not when (improved)
invisible. So mages have no use for this cloak to protect themselves
against spells like True Sight. But thieves have: most mages have the
habit to cast True Sight as soon as a hidden thief comes in their range.
Just wait till the spell wears off and then attack with the whole party.
Now protections like Mirror Image, Blur and Improved Invisibility
stay in place.

It's not a cloak of invisibility. If Yoshimo is wearing it and he hides
in the shadows, he won't be detected by spells like True Sight. If he
doesn't hide in the shadows he's just as visible as he is without it.

It's been quite awhile, but I recall that cloak never seemed to work
against the giants in Throne of Bhaal, nor ever against dragons, and
probably other powerful creatures. It was great against wizards,
however.

It only blocks magical detection methods--it won't do anything against
creatures who can see through invisibility naturally, like dragons.
