Hi,

I recently clones a hard drive, was all going well and i could boot itbut it wasn't using all the memory, so I went onto macium and expanded all the memory from the unallocated memory. It now fails to load windows and startup repair says remove any recently added peripherals, that didn't work.what have I done wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks,

Calum

Ok here is one just for you.

First lets go into disk management and extend that last partition to the rest of the hard drive like so

Just click next though out to extend that last partition with all space left over.

then if you haven't downloaded the software get it here.

https://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-personal/eshop.html

Now once installed run the software. Then click on the Orange block for Resize partition.

Then click on Next

Then click on the drives like so

Then set the right size to 16000MB like so

Then click on yes make changes...
Yes I still have it, I had the unallocated memory set as a partition but I couldn't merge it with the main windows partition so I made it unallocated and I just clciked expand on the main partition and took all the memory from the now unallocated memory.

I don't really understand your question sorry, basically I made the clone, (500gb to 2tb) and the clone said 465gb out of 485gb used (or something along those lines) so I went into macrium reflect and expanded the OS partition, taking the memory from the unallocated section. I will try another clone was just asking on forums because it takes a while and I wanted to ask before trying again, thanks, will keep you posted!

The other thing you can do is make a bootable disk with macrium, boot off of it, and then in one of the menus is an option to fix windows bootup. You can run that, select your windows, then select your OS partition as the primary boot partition, and see if that fixes it as well.

OK, so I re-cloned it and it works which is good but on windows disk management I do not have the option to extend volume, that option is un-selectable. Any suggestions? My 500gb hard drive that I cloned from is from a lenovo PC so it has lenovo recovery and something else as like 5gb partitions, one of the two lenovo partitions does have to option to extend, this has no relevance to what I want to do but at least its telling me that its not just that nothing is extenable on the new, cloned hard drive just that partition.

Ok yea that is what i thought. Follow my post here. Should work pretty much the same. If you run into an issue let me know.

You pretty much want to Expand that last partition to the end and have it take up ALL the space.

Then go though it all again and then on the second time around you can make that partition smaller and then extend the C drive partition.

There are ways in macrium to deal with that but this way will be easier as of right now.

I apologize dtrweak as I am not the most computer savvy and I couldn't make much sense of that thread. I tried all the steps but none of that happened to me. I booted the original 500gb disk and went onto windows partition manager an I am able to extend the 2tb drive but it says if I do it won't be bootable... How can i simply expand it with it still beinh bootable! What is the best option here. What route must I take? I am very sorry for not understanding. Thanks very much for all the help so far

It may take a while but once that is done you will have a nice big C drive now.
