Like many others, I keep running out of space on my PS4 hard drive. Buying and installing a new one is a piece of cake. But I don't want to have to download 500 gb of games on my slow connection. If I were to connect the two drives (old and new) to a pc I could theoretically use something like virtual clone drive to duplicate the ones and zeroes from the original drive to the new one. Is there any reason this wouldn't work?

Solution
Yes cloning the drives depends on your cloning software understanding the Partition it is cloning. For example most window based Cloning software is useless in copying Linux based partitions because they cannot read the partition. I dont have a PS4 so I don't know what the partitions are like but its likely that Standard Windows Based Cloning wont recognize it.
