I just bought a Samsung evo 850 1TB ssd. First a ran the Samsung data migration programm as suggested. The new disc was connected externally via USB 3. Of course I did the whole HDD service before (CCcleaner, defragmentation, Checkdisc). My HDD is perfectly o.k. Samsung data migration failed: first painfully slow start like 1MB/sec then error message. I followed all the instructions concerning this error message - none worked.
Then I tried Macrium reflect. SSD was recognised in BIOS and DiscManagement. There were 3 partitions on the original HDD ( the first from Dell, the second the recovery partition and third the main C: partition). Cloning of the first 2 partitions - no problem. When cloning the main C./ partition the was an error message: write failed 22 invalid argument.
When pressing o.k. even Macrium crashed. I repaeated the process - same outcome
From then on I couldn´t even access the disc. It said that I had to format the disc first but that wasn´t possible.

My specs:
Dell XPS 2710 with Win 7 Home premium; 2 TB Seagate HDD

Any ideas? Is the new SSD broken or have I messed up the whole process

Thanks Mat

Solution
Try connecting the SSD internally (via a SATA connection), to see if you'd be able to clone the HDD this way. Those issues could easily be due to a faulty cable.
Test the SSD for errors with its manufacturer's tool as well.

Please keep us posted.
Hey there, matwew25.

It sounds more like there might be an issue with the source drive - the HDD. I'd recommend that you backup your data just to be on the safe side and then download its manufacturer's diagnostic so that you can test the drive and see if there's anything out of the ordinary.
You could also give it a go with a different SATA port and different cables, to see if the issue still persists.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Can we assume the HDD boots & functions without any problems whatsoever, right?

Even so, as Boogieman suggested, just as a precaution it would be wise to test the drive with Seagate's SeaTools diagnostic program.

In one of your comments you indicate that it wasn't "possible" to format the SSD. Why wasn't it possible? Did you receive some sort of error message when you attempted to do so? Was the SSD connected as a secondary disk when you attempted to format it?

In any event, have you tested the SSD with the Samsung Magician program to determine whether there might be some problem with that disk? Do so if you haven't.

Thank you for your suggestions! Well, of course I did a complete backup (on my NAS). I rechecked the HDD with Seatools (even advanced tests) - no problem there.
To the SSD: After the first to failed attempts to clone with the Samsung Software and Macrium to the pristine (non formated) SSD I established the SSD like a simple external drive (via discmanagement in Win + Quick-format) - no problem. Then I retried the cloning process - again wtith the error message (write error). Macrium crashed again. As I tried to access the external SSD my system told me to format the SSD - which I could´nt (message unable to format).
Well, that´s it so far - I´ll try to regain access to the SSD and then I´ll try run a diskcheck on the SSD
