Do I need to perform a BIOS update if I clear CMOS? I have an overclocked 9600k CPU overclocked to 4.9 GHz. Trying to push it above 5 GHz but not really stable. It is stable at 4.9 GHz so just wondering if I would need to update the bios if I need to reset CMOS

No, clearing the CMOS just resets the defaults. You don't need to 'update' the BIOS, but you will need to re-do any changes you'd made within the BIOS itself (that you want to remain)

No, you do not need to perform a bios update after clearing CMOS, and you don't need to clear CMOS to update bios. The bios revision stays the same after a clear CMOS but your settings are reverted.
