CMOS Checksum Bad

Trying to install windows 7 on a new build and getting CMOS Checksum Bad error on boot.. any ideas?

Reset your BIOS. You can do that by removing the CMOS battery for ~15 seconds.

Removing the battery does not always clear the CMOS memory. Do it properly and use the clear CMOS link with the power lead DISCONECTED. This problem can also be caused by faulty memory.

Not all motherboards have the jumper to reset the BIOS. There is nothing "improper" about removing the battery.

Yeah, that is true, I am working with two MSI mobos and neither have the jumper. So I just take the battery out and that is it.

I disagree I have had motherboards where removing the battery does NOT clear the CMOS memory due to the capacitive charge on the chip being enough to power the memory for many days, even shorting the battery terminals will not clear the memory due to diode action.

The manufactures provide the clear CMOS link for a reason.

That's fine. You provided a way to reset the BIOS, so did I. Either will work, assuming, the motherboard has a jumper.
