Coffe Lake and B150M

Hi, I have MSI Bazooka B150M motherboard and I want upgrade to i5-8400 Coffe Lake. Both MB and CPU have same LGA1151 but will it be compatibile?

the 1xx series can use ONLY 6th and 7th generation chips.

the i5-8400 and every other 8th generation chip will require a new motherboard

Coffeelake CPUs do use a 1151 socket, but the pin out is different. If you want a coffeelake CPU you will need a 300 series motherboard. Right now the only chipset for it is the 350. They start at around 120.00

the B350 is available for the ryzen platform now, the Z370 is the only chipset available for coffee lake at the moment.
the 350 boards have not been released for intel.

In short. the MSI Bazooka B150M and Intel i5-8400 CPU is not compatible.

You can buy any Intel 8'th generation 370 chipset motherboard for some around $100-150.
